Days of Our Lives spoilers confirm that EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) will question Chad DiMera (Conner Floyd) about the chessboard left behind by Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo) on Friday, August 28, 2026. This latest spoiler puts EJ directly back into a mystery that Chad has been attempting to solve for months. Interestingly, it also comes only a few days after EJ confronts Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (Richard Wharton).
While these new spoilers don’t indicate exactly what EJ wants from his brother, nor what Chad tells him, it’s clear that Stefano’s chessboard is again important enough to cause some drama between the DiMeras.
Could they finally solve this latest Stefano mystery?

Stefano’s Chessboard Is the Latest Salem Mystery
This latest Stefano chessboard storyline began during the reading of Stefano’s will earlier this year. At the reading, Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) was presented with a chess set tied to her history with Stefano and John Black (Drake Hogestyn). Marlena wanted absolutely nothing to do with another game from her longtime tormentor.
However, Belle Black (Martha Madison), Marlena and John’s daughter, eventually became determined to find out whether Stefano had left her parents a message behind. The chessboard set was missing a pawn — an obvious nod to Stefano’s history with John.
Later, Chad got involved in the mystery, as previous Days of Our Lives spoilers confirmed. With the help of Theo Carver (Tyler Joseph Andrews), they found a secret compartment in the chessboard that contained a hidden key. Chad and Belle subsequently used this key to open another compartment, this one containing an old Italian 1,000-lirer banknote.
EJ has known about this little investigation. Back in June, when Chad went looking for one of Stefano’s old chess books, EJ pressed him for information. He also pointed out to his little brother that, although the chess set was from their father, it hadn’t been left to them. It had been left to Marlena.
Now, these new Days of Our Lives spoilers hint that EJ is once again involved with this mystery. Did something happen to make him more curious about what Stefano left behind for John and Marlena?

Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Why EJ’s Questioning Matters
This DiMera mystery became even more complicated after July. Recently, a stranger handed Belle a program after a concert that contained additional markings. Chad and Belle were able to eventually uncover more references — and Belle now believes that someone is actively feeding them clues.
So far, they don’t know who this person could be, though Belle has theorized that it could be Rolf. Regardless of who it is, Chad and Belle are going to be investigating this mystery further.
These latest Days of Our Lives spoilers hint that EJ might now be involved. Could this have anything to do with his confrontation with Rolf on Monday, August 24, 2026? Anything’s possible — though this confrontation might have more to do with Lexie Carver’s (Nikki Johnson) death.
EJ’s involvement in Stefano’s mystery is interesting. Could he simply want to know how far Belle and Chad have gotten? Is his earlier irritation over Chad inserting himself into the mystery returning? Or is something else entirely going on?
