Back in 2007, on Season 21 of Bold and the Beautiful, Taylor Hayes (then played by Hunter Tylo) was expecting her first child via IVF with her husband, Nick Marone (Jack Wagner). Now, Taylor and Nick’s relationship had quite a lot of drama before they decided to have a child, as Nick was previously married to Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang), Taylor’s longtime enemy.
However, once the two got married, things were great for Taylor and Nick. They were in love and committed to having a family together. Brooke was focused on getting back together with Ridge Forrester (then played by Ronn Moss). Ridge, meanwhile, was struggling to pick between Brooke and his fiancée, Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson).
Of course, not all was as it seemed to be in Taylor and Nick’s marriage. Unfortunately, Nick was keeping a huge secret from the wife that he loved: their egg donor was possibly Brooke! Though Taylor chose to use an anonymous egg donor, Bridget Forrester (Ashley Jones) believed there was a mix-up at the hospital. Brooke, who was in the system as Mrs. Marrone, had donated her eggs. Bridget believed that Brooke’s eggs might have been used.
Nick kept this secret from his wife throughout her pregnancy, simply because they didn’t know whether the anonymous egg donor’s (one they chose) eggs were used… or Brooke’s. And then, little Jack Marone was born with a terrible immune system deficiency on Bold and the Beautiful. He needed a bone marrow transplant… and testing was done that revealed that Brooke was indeed his biological mother!
Taylor Learns That Brooke Was Her Egg Donor on Classic B&B
At first, secrecy was key. Nick and Bridget learned that Brooke was the biological mother of Jack soon after he was born. When Nick learned that his son needed a bone marrow transplant, he quickly called Brooke and told her what was going on. Brooke understood that it was all a mix-up at the hospital, and she quickly rushed to the hospital to have the surgery to save Jack’s life.
All without Taylor knowing the truth. Only after the surgery was successful did Taylor learn that Brooke was her egg donor. As can be imagined, she wasn’t thrilled to learn about this. Though Taylor and Brooke weren’t at war with each other during this period, the realization that she had carried Brooke’s baby for nine months was devastating to Taylor.
The story remains controversial for Bold and the Beautiful fans to this day. This storyline eventually led to the end of Taylor and Nick’s marriage. Unfortunately for Taylor fans, the Hayes doctor hasn’t found a worthy man for her yet… or is Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) truly the man for her?
Though Taylor eventually came to terms with Brooke being her egg donor, she still felt that Brooke didn’t need to be anywhere near Jack. She was an anonymous egg donor — that was all. Ridge, who had finally chosen Brooke over Ashley, felt the same. He didn’t want any ties between Brooke and Nick to exist, and now this baby was one.
Nick and Brooke felt a bit differently. Though Nick at first wanted Brooke to be in Jack’s life, they both realized that it couldn’t be. Nick wanted his marriage to Taylor to work, and Brooke wanted to be with Ridge. Of course, all of this fell apart in the end, and Nick eventually left town to raise Jack by himself.

Rewatching this storyline today is fascinating, for a whole lot of reasons! Whether you liked the twist that Brooke was Taylor’s egg donor or not, this storyline brought a whole lot of soapy drama to Taylor, Brooke, Nick, and Ridge, among many others.
Hunter Tylo was fantastic as a worried mother learning that the child she carried was biologically her enemy’s. Katherine Kelly Lang was also riveting to watch as she struggled to come to terms with the fact that she couldn’t be a mother to little baby Jack. Nothing like some of this classic B&B drama!
